Classic cars

American classic cars, straight from America

A Chevrolet C10, a Ford Mustang or a BMW that spent its whole life in California: in America you find classics that are hardly for sale in Europe. We search for them to order, or pick up the car you found yourself, and ship it to Rotterdam.

Costs and import

Importing a car from America: what comes on top?

Price. Our prices are in dollars and include shipping to the port of Rotterdam. After that come unloading the container, the customs declaration, import duty and VAT.

Import duty and VAT. If the car is 30 years or older and in original condition, it can be declared as a collector’s vehicle: usually 0% import duty and a reduced VAT rate instead of 10% duty and the standard rate. Customs decides per car. The full story is in importing a classic from the USA. All the steps and costs, also for younger cars, are on importing a car from the USA.

Road tax. Many European countries have lower road tax or special classic plates for older cars, but the age limits differ per country. Read more in when is a car a classic.

Inspection and registration. After arrival the car must be inspected and registered in your country. In the Netherlands we work with people who can arrange that.

How long does it take? From the east coast, such as New York, a car takes about 4 weeks to Rotterdam. From California about 2 months.

Why from America? There is much more choice, and cars from dry states like California, Arizona and Nevada often have much less rust than classics from Europe.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about a classic from America

Almost anything that is for sale in America: American classics such as the Chevrolet C10, Ford Mustang, Camaro or Cadillac, but also European and Japanese cars that spent their whole life in America, such as the BMW 633 CSi or the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60.

The price is in dollars and includes shipping to Rotterdam. Then come the port costs, the customs declaration, import duty and VAT. For an original car 30 years or older that is usually 0% import duty and a reduced VAT rate. Feel free to ask for an all-in calculation. A full overview is on importing a car from the USA.

Yes. Send us the listing or the seller’s details. We go and look, film the car, pick it up and arrange the shipping, as with the 1968 Ford Mustang and the 1965 Chevrolet C10.

From the east coast about 4 weeks, from California about 2 months. Then come customs, inspection and registration in your country.

You first receive an invoice. You then pay into the company’s US business account, not a personal account.

That depends on your country. In the Netherlands a car 40 years or older is exempt (from 2028 only vehicles built before 1988), in Germany a car 30 years or older can get an H plate with a low flat-rate tax. Check the rules in your country.
