Why from America
Why an Electra Glide from America?
Much more choice
Far more Electra Glides are for sale in America than in Europe: Standard, Classic, Ultra Classic and trikes too.
Good prices
Touring bikes are plentiful in America, so even after import you often pay less than for a used bike in Europe.
No surprises
You see the bike start and run on video, and you get the Carfax or damage report before you pay.
Money back if it disappoints
If you don’t like the bike when you collect it from the shipping agent, you get your money back, including the transport costs.
Which Electra Glide?
From Shovelhead to Twin Cam: the generations
Shovelhead (1966-1984)
The classic Electra Glide with the Shovelhead engine. Sought after by classic enthusiasts; often 30+ years old, which can lower import costs.
Evolution (1984-1998)
The 1340 cc Evo engine: reliable, easy to maintain and parts are available everywhere.
Twin Cam 88 (1999-2006)
1450 cc and more torque. Comfortable for long rides with luggage or a passenger.
Twin Cam 96 and 103 (2007-2016)
Six-speed gearbox, more power and more modern technology.
Registration and costs
Registration and costs
Registration differs per European country, so check with your own national authority. As an example, in the Netherlands an Electra Glide up to model year 2005 is inspected at a regular RDW station, while 2006 and newer go to RDW Lelystad. A trike counts as a three-wheeled motor vehicle there and is inspected differently. We work with people in the Netherlands who can handle the inspection and Dutch registration; with Dutch papers it is an EU-registered vehicle.
After arrival, unloading, the customs declaration, import duty and VAT are added. Ask us for an all-in calculation for a specific bike.
The original radio in the batwing fairing is easy to replace with a radio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
FAQ
Questions about an Electra Glide from America
What is the difference between Standard, Classic and Ultra Classic?
The Electra Glide Standard (FLHT) is the base version with batwing fairing and saddlebags. The Classic (FLHTC) adds a Tour-Pak (rear trunk) and more comfort. The Ultra Classic (FLHTCU) also has lower fairings, extra speakers and an intercom.
Do I need a motorcycle licence for a trike?
That depends on your country. In the Netherlands, a car licence (B) obtained before 19 January 2013 lets you ride a trike without a motorcycle licence; with a B licence obtained later you need an A licence.
Can you find a specific Electra Glide for me?
Yes. Send us your wishes via WhatsApp (version, model year, colour, budget) and we will look for one on the next buying trip in America.
How long does shipping take?
About 4 weeks from New York, about 2 months from Los Angeles.
Can I register an Electra Glide myself?
Yes, following the rules of your own country. If you prefer, we work with people in the Netherlands who can handle the inspection and Dutch registration.
How do I pay, and is it safe?
You first receive an invoice. You then pay into the company’s US business account, not a personal account.
